Centaurea attica ssp. megarensis (family: Compositae) – Life cycle This is one of the most delicate species of Centaurea. As the name implies it is endemic to Attica. Luckily enough you can easily find it when it flowers since the colour and shape of its flower are distinct, basically due to their vivid purple / magenta color. Mythology has it that the genus was named after Centaur Cheiron who tried, unsuccessfully, to heal his wounds with a species of this genus. In most places you can see the C. attica flowers from mid-March to mid-June, although individual flowers do not last more than a couple of weeks.
